These aspects of your life will soon be permeated (and changed forever) by IoT
The Internet of Things or IoT is a lofty technology that connects devices and appliances to the global internet network so that they become a part of a ‘smart’ web that can be automated, optimized and accessed anywhere in the world. This disruptive technology promised an extraordinarily lofty experience to consumers, and today there are about 26.6 billion devices connected. This technology is more complex than just allowing you to turn on your AC from your mobile phone. It can facilitate self-driving cars, drone delivery, automated AI-driven surgeries, wearable health gadgets and even improve weather forecasting by leaps and bounds. Just like the widespread adoption of smartphone technology gave us lifestyle tools like Uber, BigBasket, and Instagram, IoT will turn things up a notch, and transform the modern society. Here’s how IoT will soon change life as we know it-
1. Traffic Transformation
Not sure if this is something to celebrate or be terrified about, but self-driving cars and public transport will become a reality sooner than you think. Vehicles with sophisticated sensors will have the capacity to determine the position of cars, the change in traffic lights and avoid sudden collisions. The good news is that robotic cars can’t drive intoxicated or fall asleep behind the wheel, so this one is a win-win.
With the threesome of IoT, Automation and Machine learning, supply chain and production industries are expecting a massive growth. Robotic workers that are controlled by tablets are already deployed by Mercedes, and they never tire and take no breaks! IoT is facilitating an industrial boom like no other, where output rates are increasing manifold. Read our blog about AI in industries.
3. Healthcare will become effortless
IoT is already facilitating surgery procedures, and in the future wearable devices or chipping will be able to bring healthcare professionals closer to the ailments. Nearly 87% of healthcare organizations will incorporate IoT by the end of this year. Globally, this trend will soon follow. From smart sensors to remote monitoring and medical device integration, healthcare will become more sophisticated than ever before.
Security is rapidly expanding and congested urban cities have always been a concern for administrators around the world. Today, starting with China, a lot of countries are harnessing the power of IoT to transform security operations around the world. When IoT is deployed in cities in a well-planned and cohesive, security becomes a primary design feature. IoT and AI can help detect unusual activities through video sensors and send out timely warnings to law enforcement authorities and even warn hospitals about attacks and accidents, cutting down the time taken for these authorities to reach the crime scene, this decreasing the action time considerably. IoT and AI can also help ‘recognize’ faces of perpetrators from massive databases.
5. Environmental impact
Several IoT technologies are designed specifically to address climate change and environmental issues that need urgent action. IoT can use real-time data to reduce deforestation and illegal poaching and logging through data collected by sensors attached near green cover, or satellites in the future. Present-day IoT technology is helping secure threatened ecosystems like that of bees by monitoring the condition of their hives. Flow sensors can detect leakage and automatically notify the user to fix the problem before more wastage ensues. Efficient farming techniques like drone imagery and soil management will increase the outputs out of farming efforts.
The wonderful capacity of IoT is not limited to these aspects. Everything from shopping to will soon become more sophisticated and customer-centric after IoT becomes a mainstream technology. How do you think IoT will change your life? Is it a boon or a bane? Tell us in the comments below!
